Standard 10: Colleagues, Parents, and Community. Candidates foster relationships with school colleagues, parents and agencies in the larger community to support students’ learning and well-being.
Supporting Explanation Candidates consult with parents and teachers, and collaborate with other professionals within the school and within community agencies to foster student learning. They participate in collegial activities designed to make the entire school a productive learning community. Candidates act as advocates for students, advise them, recognize student problems, and seek additional help as needed and appropriate. Candidates understand schools as organizations within the larger community and effectively communicate school goals and accomplishments to the community and general public.
My Reflection of This Standard I like to think of schools as small communities that must build positive relationships. I think that fostering relationships with colleagues, parents, administrators, school officials, and students are necessary to create trust with a school. I want to be an important part in the school that I work in. I plan on being an involved teacher by actively participating or sponsoring after-school activities, volunteering when needed, and eventually participate in a leadership position.
Artifact Explanation:
The first artifact I have included on this page is a Science Fair Project that I put together that includes rules and guidelines. This work displays a parent letter and a letter to other teachers. This type of extra activities in my future job would hopefully help build the positive relationships that I hope to build.
The second artifact included is a Traveling Bag of Books. This is a small portion of the whole assignment that I have. The purpose of this is to put the papers, a book, and a stuffed animal or some type of prop in a bag to take home. This could be an enrichment assignment or to help catch up struggling readers. By sending home my materials and requiring parental involvement I would be strengthening the school to home relationship.
